If you are anything like us, you will appreciate Monna and her talent, drive and enthusiasm. We wanted to redo the entire main level of our home including great room, foyer, kitchen and master bed & bath. Not having built a home or done any remodel, small or large, before this, we were frankly clueless and anxious about the project. We went to a few design places in the neighborhood and that is where we met Monna for the first time. For various reasons we put the project on hold for a few years. When we went back to it, we found Monna had moved on. We spoke to several other designers and, after repeated disappointments, went on the hunt for Monna.
Monna’s talent is in understanding what you want from style to décor and converting those into design. She started off by understanding our likes and desires, what structural changes, if any we were willing/wanted to do, and, most importantly, what we wanted the end result to be. (In hindsight, if we had been left to our own devices without Monna’s input, our ‘end result’ would have been ‘boring’).
The thing I love about Monna is her passion about her work. She methodically went about challenging us. She offered up a variety of options blending our desires and her vision and creativity. Imagining the rooms from a paper design and small sample is hard, if not, impossible. Monna patiently explained the reasons for her choices and suggestions rather than just saying ‘trust me’. By the time we came to the point where we had to decide on the various paint colors, we pretty much just let her pick them and explain to us whey she chose those specific ones.
Monna doesn’t just create the basic design on paper and disappear. She was active during the implementation, working with the general contractor, coming out often to inspect the work, to make sure it was done both in a quality fashion and consistent with her design and vision. She was integrally involved in picking out things like the kitchen and bathroom sinks, appliances for the kitchen, etc., etc. There is one story that is indicative of the detail she puts into her design. We needed a door handle for a set of shelves in the bar area. She wanted one that would work with the faucet handle on the mini sink above the shelves. It took us about four weeks to find the perfect one. Monna would not compromise on it. It was worth the wait.
